First things first.
I’m Captain Rob Modys and I’ve been fishing Florida waters for a very long time.
I grew up in Clearwater and started fishing the beaches there in 1959 – told you it was a long time ago.
I spent six years in the US Coast Guard, owned a business or two in Kentucky and then eventually made my way back to Florida’s east coast. I started a charter fishing business in 2000 and fished Biscayne Bay, the upper Florida Keys and then migrated to Florida’s Southwest coast where I fished from Boca Grande south to the Ten Thousand Islands, focusing mainly on Pine Island Sound, Matlacha Pass and Estero Bay.
Wait, there’s more. I taught fishing classes for Collier County Adult Education and Bass Pro Shops. I also hosted my own fishing radio show, Reel Talk Radio, for a little over ten years on ESPN Southwest Florida radio and I’ve fished tournaments and worked the fishing seminar trail. I was finally forced to throw in the towel and retire a few years ago to fight a persistent case of cancer. I’m doing much better, but the fight continues.
I recently moved back to Fort Lauderdale where I continue to fish as much as possible. With all the extra time on my hands I finally wrote the book my class and radio fans have long been requesting. What I Know About Fishing Southwest Florida has been published and is now available for ordering.
